IT has provided the opportunities for governments to remodel the entire process of tax collection over the last decade. It is, however, a continuously evolving process and governments the world over need to constantly upgrade their tax systems to optimise their revenue workflows.
A recent SAP study confirmed that those organisations which adopt best practices in the areas of scope and adoption, process standardisation, technology and customer governance, do perform better, and do so as their best practice maturity increases.
The advent of social media has seen governments hopping onto the bandwagon in a bid to further engage citizens.

The Asia e University (AeU), an international university based in Malaysia, accepted its first batch of students last month. Working entirely online, AeU was set up with the support of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), a forum with 31 member countries, benefitting it with resources from all members through collaborations with institutes of higher learning and training centres.
Professor Dr Hairuddin Harun AeU Vice-President says the university promotes flexible learning.
In the delivery of its courses, AeU employs two modes of learning: The face- to-face/conventional approach combines conventional teaching and learning and online interactions (e-learning mode), while the blended/online approach combines face-to-face interactions, online interactions (e-learning mode) and independent study.
Its programmes and products are focused on affordability, accessibility and marketability. The university offers a wide array of courses ranging from certificates courses to bachelor’s, master’s and doctorates, all designed to market demands and needs.
AeU is a dual-mode university, offering programmes in the open- and distance-learning (ODL) mode as well as the full-time-on-site mode. Students will have the option to migrate from the ODL mode to the full-time mode and vice-versa.
