Fuji Xerox is touting the ApeosPort-III C3300/C2200/C2201 and DocuCentre-III C3300/C2200/C2201, as “the ultimate choice for streamlined workflow and enhanced security”, on the grounds that they use environmentally-friendly technologies. Rival MFP manufacturers might beg to differ, but the (Japanese) company has been presented with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Prize in the Eco Products Category at the 4th Eco-Products Awards held in Japan last year.

Built “with the environment in mind”, parts for the output unit, including the paper feeder, are now using lead-free shafts. And by using a newly developed biomass plastic that comprises more than 30 per cent of plant-derived constituent (by weight) for the manufacture of moving parts in the machine, we have effectively reduced the carbon dioxide emissions during production.

Moreover, an energy-saving controller, high-efficient lamp and temperature-controlling technology reduce power consumption in sleep mode to just 2.2W, significantly lower than that used by conventional devices.

Despite using green technologies, image quality is not compromised. The MFPs have a newly developed print head that uses LED as a light source to write images on the photoreceptor drum. In traditional LED systems, a disparity of the amount of light often results in unbalanced image quality, but now Fuji Xerox has resolved this problem, delivering high image quality of 1200 x 2400 dpi, the equivalent to laser systems.

Tweaking the design has also removed the motor needed to rotate the polygon mirror, resulting in a compact LED print head and allowing for less noise emission and finishers such as a stapler to be incorporated into these devices.
