New solution to protect business communications

A new email protection offering, called LogiQ, has been made available to protect legitimate business communications currently being blocked or redirected to junk mail folders by traditional anti-spam filters.

BoxSentry, which developed the solution, says it can demonstrate the volume of lost email within a given network and prevent this from happening without replacing any of the existing security infrastructure.

According to industry experts, false positives (legitimate emails taken as spam) range between 0.1 per cent and 0.5 per cent. Although this sounds small, it indicated 10 to 50 emails go missing out of every 10,000.

As government agencies increasingly rely on email communications with millions of incoming email on a weekly basis, missing legitimate email presents an alarming problem, according to Manish Goel, Co-founder and CEO of BoxSentry.

“We all assume that email infrastructure is working properly, when in fact it is not,” Goel says. “The disruption to the underlying business processes – and confidence therein – can be significant.”

The State Secretariat Agency for the Republic of Indonesia uses email for much of its official correspondence.

“While we need to ensure that user mailboxes are free from spam and viruses, we also need to protect important and legitimate emails,” Andrie Syahriza, Head of Development and Application System of the State Secretariat, said that in the past there were numerous instances where critical emails were not received.

Syahriza found the problem ‘disturbing’ as the agency had to run a scan, and filter each mail manually, which cost a lot of time and productivity.

According to Goel, LogiQ uses a combination of patented sender identity, reputation and authentication techniques to validate and protect legitimate email communication.

“Based on self-learning algorithms and industry-adopted authentication standards, LogiQ complements existing email security screening technologies,” he says. “The solution has been designed to work without the need to replace any existing infrastructure and augments traditional security architecture to restore email integrity to a vital communication channel.”

Now with the deployment of the BoxSentry system, Syahriza is confident that emails of the State Secretariat “are being protected and senders are from legitimate sources”.

“Email integrity is essential for ensuring both senders and receivers have the confidence to say ‘message sent equals message delivered’, similar to the dependable nature of financial transactions,” adds Goel.
