Pakistan province to spend US$624m on education

Lahore, the capital of Punjab province in Pakistan has termed the promotion of education as the topmost priority for the provincial government. Raja Riaz Ahmad Senior Minister has said that the government will introduce IT education to secondary and higher secondary schools.

He has announced that a sum of US$624 million will be spent on educational development during the current fiscal year. Computer labs will be set up in 4574 public schools with US$103 million. Ahmad says that the government wants students to get IT education for free.

“The government is committed to achieving a 100 per cent literacy rate in the province,” Ahmad concludes. “These interventions are geared towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals before 2015. We want to develop our education sector in such a way that it plays a pivotal role in nation building.”
