Professor Prem Kumar Dhumal, the state’s Chief Minister, said that the state’s first kiosks, set up in Hamirpur in 2001, had proved beneficial in providing IT related services to the people, hence the roll-out.

He added that State Wide Area Network (HIMSWAN) was another scheme which connects grass-root level revenue units with district and state headquarters through IT, and was part of the national e-Governance project.

Also, Professor Dhumal said that the mobile users would soon be benefitted with SMS Gateway services which would help them in getting information from different departments.

Himachal being “an environment-friendly State” would soon be introducing a Geographical Information System (GIS) to monitor the illicit felling and soil erosion that has hampered the state.

In addition, a Hospital Management System had been introduced at the Indira Gandhi Medical College, and this facility would also be extended to the other major hospitals in the State.
