Indian territory to launch citizen-friendly portal

The administration of the Indian state of Chandigarh is developing a State Service Delivery Gateway (SSDG) that will act as front-end interface to various e-governance initiatives and services across all departments of the Union Territory (UT) Administration.

The site aims to be a “citizen friendly” portal where citizens will be able to download forms through Common Service Centres (CSC) outlets and submit their applications electronically.

The scheme involves two phases; phase I will cover the services provided free of cost while, phase II would included payable services.

The SSDG project will be finalised after taking input from other participating departments and the same will be forwarded to Government of India for funds. Chandigarh Police, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Estate Office and Election Commission will be covered in Phase I of the project while other Departments would be covered in Phase II.

Once the portal becomes operational, it shall host all e-forms for availing of various government services for citizens.

If successful, the scheme will enable and ensure interaction between various departments or external entities using standard interfaces. The submission of application and the delivery of selected services will be done electronically.

SSDG will act as standards-based messaging gateway and provide exchange of data across all the administrative departments in Chandigarh.

“The scheme aims at making all government services accessible to the common man in the locality, through common service delivery outlets along with ensuring efficiency, transparency and reliability of such services at affordable costs,” said Sanjay Kumar, Finance Secretary of the Union Territory of India.
