Tax and Revenue Management: A government’s lifeblood

IT has provided the opportunities for governments to remodel the entire process of tax collection over the last decade. It is, however, a continuously evolving process and governments the world over need to constantly upgrade their tax systems to optimise their revenue workflows.

Unlocking Public Value

A recent SAP study confirmed that those organisations which adopt best practices in the areas of scope and adoption, process standardisation, technology and customer governance, do perform better, and do so as their best practice maturity increases.

Governments and Socialising

The advent of social media has seen governments hopping onto the bandwagon in a bid to further engage citizens.

Singapore govt calls for cloud proposals

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to Cloud Computing by calling for proposals for “innovative” cloud-based projects. For selected Singapore-registered organisations, both private and public, the government will subsidise the use of cloud services by 50 to 100 per cent, depending on qualifying criteria.

At the launch of IBM Cloud Labs in Singapore on May 4th, Khoong Hock Yun, Assistant CEO, Infrastructure and Services Development Group, IDA, outlined the rationale behind the initiative: “In Cloud Computing, we have an emerging ecosystem that can be tapped into.

“500-600 Small-Medium Enterprises are already using our grid facilities. The “Software as a Service” model is ready to take off. Ultimately, we will have a spectrum of public and private clouds. Citizen outreach initiatives could occupy a public cloud and different ministries could have their own clouds according to their requirements.”

The IDA’s plan is to attract IT service providers and technology firms to Singapore. This will not only provide revenue, but keep local firms and institutes of higher learning abreast with all issues related to Cloud Computing.

The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between Research & Development and the real world, and to create a platform to link innovation with implementation so that the results of abstract research can be harnessed. The initiative is a part of the 10-year “Intelligent Nation 2015” (iN2015) Masterplan for Singapore led by the IDA.
