Tax and Revenue Management: A government’s lifeblood

IT has provided the opportunities for governments to remodel the entire process of tax collection over the last decade. It is, however, a continuously evolving process and governments the world over need to constantly upgrade their tax systems to optimise their revenue workflows.

Unlocking Public Value

A recent SAP study confirmed that those organisations which adopt best practices in the areas of scope and adoption, process standardisation, technology and customer governance, do perform better, and do so as their best practice maturity increases.

Governments and Socialising

The advent of social media has seen governments hopping onto the bandwagon in a bid to further engage citizens.

Malaysian education group integrates student info system

With eleven campuses across Malaysia and Indonesia each running stand-alone student management systems, INTI Education Group (INTI) had difficulties maintaining an updated and accurate report on its students. According to Richard Pany, Group Chief Information Officer at INTI, there was a lot of manual processing of data and duplicated information and effort, resulting in inaccuracy of information.

INTI deployed a centralised campus student information system which replaced and consolidated the legacy systems developed ad-hoc over the years. Based on JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the integrated system is now used by all campuses for all marketing and recruitment activities.

Open standards, reliability, scalability and robustness were key considerations, said Pany. “The technologies are based on open standards, and we see this translating to lower costs and greater flexibility for our business. In addition, with a clear and simple subscription model that includes software, support and upgrades, the new platform simplifies INTI’s business execution and makes it more affordable.”

INTI reported quantifiable benefits from the implementation. Production of reports which took three days previously has been reduced to one day. INTI now has a full-scope view of each student’s data in a single view, rather than scattered across different systems. Data integration is more seamless, human input errors are reduced and information is available in real-time across INTI’s various campuses.
