The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) of Yilan county in partnership with a leading global provider of GIS solutions, has developed a GIS application that will help local authorities monitor and control environmental pollution in the county.
Yilan county is located at the northeastern corner of Taiwan. It is one of the 25 counties in Taiwan and consists of 12 townships which include two aboriginal townships.
The GIS application, which DEP aptly called the “Yilan Pollution Control GIS”, collects related information on environmental pollution and provides spatial data displays, such as marine pollution simulation display, air pollution simulation display, and GIS manipulation which will enable users to add annotations on the map.
In addition, staff at DEP can also update the data through the data management function to provide the latest and most timely information so as to help the department arrive at well-informed decisions for the communities in the county.
