The new buildings at Pakenham Springs Primary School have environmental sustainability features including double glazed windows, increased use of insulation in floors, walls and ceilings, and automatic features to monitor and manage heating, cooling and ventilation.

With enrolments increasing, the government has supported the school with the delivery of new temporary student accommodation designed to help minimise the environmental footprint of the school.

According to Education Minister, Martin Dixon, “These two relocatable buildings are only the beginning of a new project that seeks to make even more significant improvements to the design of school buildings. These new buildings will not only respond to a growing population but also underline the need for improved environmentally sustainable design.”

“This prototype further demonstrates the Victorian Coalition Government’s commitment to the continuous development of sustainable school design.”

Pakenham Springs Primary School has a strong record in embracing innovation and showing environmental leadership with educational programs focused on recycling and respect for the environment. Later this year the school will also receive a prototype relocatable classroom that has significantly increased environmental features.
