Singapore’s National Day Parade, a parade held annually to commemorate the city state’s independence, this year will have ground surveillance in the form of lightweight Manpack Camera Systems.
These mobile cameras will be carried in a backpack by soldiers and can send live security footage to the control room, giving parade organisers better understanding of the ground situation.
“Previously, we depended on fixed CCTV locations that sometimes may not provide 100 per cent area coverage. With this system, we can actually understand the ground situation better,” said Colonel Lee Heok Chye, Chairman of Security Operations & Contingencies.
The parade will have 30 other fixed cameras and a mobile clinic that can be transformed from a truck into a medical post in 15 minutes. Each station has its own electricity and enough supplies to deal with 200 casualties each.
