Indonesia to use geospatial information in Public Housing

Bakosurtanal, Indonesia’s coordinating agency for survey and mapping, has just recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Ministry of Housing which signals a heightened cooperation between the two agencies on the use of geospatial information for the development of public housing in the country.

According to an official statement from Bakosurtanal, the Ministry of Public Housing will use geospatial information for the construction of housing and settlement areas, and as well as to increase the effectiveness and efficiency in housing programmes and residential neighbourhood.

In his speech, Minister of Public Housing, Suharso Monoarfa stressed the need for geospatial information in order to efficiently develop housing programmes, he added that geospatial information is critical in meeting the development of housing programmes and that the joint partnership between the two agencies would have a significant contribution to the development of public housing and neighbourhood in the country.

“Geospatial data and information is very useful in every activity, especially in the provision of public housing throughout Indonesia,” Ased Karsidi, head of Bakosurtanal said in an official statement.

In addition to Bakosurtanal, the Ministry of Housing is also coordinating partnerships with a number of relevant agencies including the Ministry of Rural Development, Central Bureau of Statistics and the Association of Regional Development Banks.
