As part of an effort to help consumers plan their spending on commodities wisely, the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-Operatives, & Consumerism launched the 1Malaysia Pengguna Bijak (1MPB) Portal , an interactive portal where consumers can update themselves with the current price of various consumer goods sold at 1255 premises throughout the country.

The 1MPB aims to ensure that all participating retail outlets sell their products at reasonable prices, and to benefit all consumers at large. Through this portal, the general public would be able to get first-hand information on changes in the price of a variety of consumer products nationwide.

At present, the portal displays the price of 355 types of goods sold at hypermarkets, 100 types at supermarkets, 50 types at wet markets, and 100 types at convenient stores. The prices and other information displayed in the portal are updated daily.

The products range from fresh produce like eggs, fish, meat and vegetables; dried goods such as anchovies, flour, rice, sugar; to other essentials like baby formula, diapers, soap, toothpaste, and other commodities.

The portal is also an alternative channel for consumers to discuss on consumer issues through interactive forms such as forum, blog, web chat which gives users an opportunity to chat with YB Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-Operatives and Consumerism.

Since its launch last week, the 1Pengguna portal has received over 3.5 million hits.
