Indonesia Launches Online Public Information Services

The House of Representatives has recently launched two online public information services devoted to public complaints and public information in an effort to better respond to public complaints and suggestions, and to better connect with the citizens.

With the new system, citizens can submit a complaint online on issues concerning the House of Representatives or law enforcement.

According to House Speaker Marzuki Alie, under the new system, citizens can monitor the progress of their reports online.

By filling out the online comment form, users will be required to submit personal data such as their address and ID number. Marzuki says that users will also have to specify to whom the message is directed as it will be forwarded to the person mentioned in the complaint form.

Meanwhile, House Secretary General Nining Indra Saleh said that since the start of the year, there had been 539 complaints filed with the House by the public and 83 requests for data, including summaries of laws, initial drafts of bills and reports from comparative study trips.

Nining said that people previously had to come directly to the House to obtain that kind of information.

“But now, in order to provide a fast and cost-effective service, we’ve developed this online public information system which makes it easier for Indonesians to obtain valuable public information,” she said.
