The NSWEC has revealed improved IT systems to aid voters, from enrolment to tallying, in the March 26 state election.

Among the initiatives is an iPhone application with the following features: ● District Finder- to find your district and access district information such as outline maps and polling places ● Districts- to view district information for all 93 New South Wales districts ● My Location- to find the nearest polling place to your current position displayed on a street map with a list of directions ● and LIVE RESULTS- as counting progresses throughout election night you will get real-time updates of the tally counts.

Another IT development is the Virtual Tally Room. The 2011 election will be the first in the state without a physical voting tally room for politicians and the media.

The commission has also automatically enrolled eligible voters for the state elections through its SmartROLL project.

Lastly, NSWEC has implemented an electronic voting system (iVote) that enables registered voters to cast their vote anytime and anywhere as soon as they receive their voting number. iVote is designed for disabled and overseas citizens, with the application running until 23 March 2011.

Would have been good if the article provided the correct photos of the app. The photo shown is for the NSW Liberal Party iPhone app. Correct app can be found at http://itune… .
