Overcome cloud security step by step

Cloud security is a worry on the top of government’s mind when they consider adopting the technology. Thus, Jirapon Tubtimhin, Director, Government Information Technology, National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC), Thailand, recommends keen ICT practitioners “move forward with a step by step approach”.

“First, virtualise your own data centre. This wise idea helps your organisation learn and prepare for the cloud move, while letting you observe the evolution of the basic functional elements of the information infrastructure regarding security,” said Tubtimhin to FutureGov Asia Pacific.

And most importantly to the “traditional ICT community”, in this test drive, the facilities are still on premises, giving full security control.

If at the end of the test drive, organisations like how virtualisation technology works with the full security control, “they will be poised to move into the private cloud”.

Yet despite all the trials that organisations can go for, Tubtimhin said that the ultimate driver for cloud adoption will still be the cost savings and and maturity of the technology.
