Three Taiwanese notebook sellers have secured bids to supply tablet PC’s to the government, military and educational agencies in Taiwan.
The Taiwan-based notebook vendors—Acer, Asustek Computer and First International Computer (FIC)—will provide the agencies with the tablet PCs in the second half of the year.
The tablet PCs covered by the deal should run on either Android 3.0 or Windows 7 with a guarantee for three years, said the industry sources. The vendors are expected to secure the orders beginning mid-June this year.
Acer is expected to land orders for its 10-inch Iconia Tab A500, which can be available in Android 3.0 or Windows 7 versions. The Iconia Tab A500 tablets are manufactured by Compal Electronics and was launched April this year.
The government’s procurement plans will include Asustek’s Android 3.0 10-inch Eee Pad Transformer tablet PCs, which were launched this year while FIC will offer Windows 7-based models.
FIC on November last year debuted the Tycoon, a tablet PC based on Windows 7 Home Premium.
The market size of tablet PCs in Taiwan is expected to top over 400,000 units in 2011, according to Scott Lin, president of Acer Taiwan.
