Abu Dhabi to introduce new e-payment services

The Ministry of Finance in partnership with the National Bank of Abu Dhabi will be launching the new version of e-Dirham this month called, the second generation E-Dirham (G2 E-Dirham), as part of the Ministry’s effort to position United Arab Emirates as a world leader in government e-services.

The e-Dirham is a payment tool introduced by the Ministry of Finance in 2001 that aims to replace the conventional revenue collection systems, simplify payment collections for various services offered by the Government, and provide a secure revenue collection method that will protect the rights of the Government and the rights of the public from any forgeries.

When the e-Dirham was launched in 2001, it automatically made UAE the first in the arab region to implement such system countrywide thus making the e-Dirham a government best practice case study in UAE.

According to HE Younis Haji Al Khouri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, the new G2 E-Dirham is a unique, multi-faceted system that will provide users with a state-of-the-art mechanism for making payments.

The system uses the latest in IT advancements and follows global best practices in security and efficiency in order to provide new channels for e-payment in the UAE and connect it to other global payment networks.

The Ministry aims at continuously enhancing e-payment methods applied in government and private domains, in line with our aim to rationalise the UAE’s financial resources and achieve sustainable development for the nation,” he said.

Our partnership with the National Bank of Abu Dhabi in launching the second generation of the E-Dirham reflects our commitment to cooperate with local financial and banking institutions to develop the most efficient and advanced financial services.”
