The government of Singapore will help the Brazilian government develop ICT systems that will boost seaport activities and enhance global competitiveness of Brazil, under an agreement signed today.
Under the Technical Assistance Agreement, Singapore’s IDA International and Secretaria de Portos— Brazil’s federal seaport authority— would collaborate on projects that support Brazil’s cargo transportation activities.
IDA International will analyse the cargo transportation feasibility, and recommend policies and systems required to implement a paperless cabotage system in Brazil. Cabotage refers to the transportation of goods or passengers by sea within a country.
The initiative arose from Brazil’s interest in Singapore given its position as one of the world’s busiest ports and second in World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index 2010.
The Agreement was signed by Leônidas Cristino, Minister of Ports of Brazil and Seah Chin Siong, CEO of IDA International, in the presence of representatives from IE Singapore, IDA International, and Ambassador Luís Fernando Serra, Ambassador of Brazil to Singapore.
Minister Cristino said the move is a significant milestone for Brazil.
“We are pleased to be able to work with IDA International and to learn from Singapore so that we can further enhance our competitiveness through the use of ICT in our seaports,” he said.
Work on the project is expected to start by year-end.
