The National Institute of Infectious Diseases will be using SuperGIS Desktop 3, an advanced GIS software to improve the research outcomes, and disease control of various infectious viruses and diseases.
Learning from the successful experience of Taiwan’s Centre for Disease Control which applied a similar technology to the study of disease distribution and medical resource management, the Department of Virology in NIID will use the software to classify and visualise complex disease data on map layers thereby assisting researchers in the surveillance and management of diverse virus information.
The software allows the data to be displayed clearly in dissimilar locations in unique colours, so as to help local officials monitor the prevention result and cure rate more efficiently.
With the system in place, it is expected that medical measures and policies will be designed in a more systematic way, and researchers can arrive at more insightful and forward-looking outcomes.
After the implementation of SuperGIS Desktop 3, NIID is planning on providing a web-based solution for the public to query medical information in real-time.
