Taiwan to distribute tablets in schools

Taiwan Department of Education wants to provide 70 tablets—each at a cost of US$330—to each of the 16 junior high schools in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, in a pilot programme.

The cost will be beared by the Industrial Development Bureau Ministry of Economic Affairs. With the tablets in place, teachers will carry out specially designed lesson plans to break away from the traditional modes of teaching and create learning clusters within the city.

In the pilot phase, schools can decide if the tablets will be given to designated teachers or lessons/subjects. Meaning if a teacher is designated to undertake the tablet programme, all students attending his/her class will get to use it. Whereas if the tablet is assigned to a specific subject, all students taking the particular subject will have lesson plans specially designed to harness its capabilities.
