1) Why has Intermec sponsored this award?

Healthcare is an important sector – both from a business and societal perspective – across the Asia-Pacific region. Intermec is proud to have implemented several applications such as bedside labeling , casualty management system, for several players in the healthcare industry. Intermec is proud to be involved in key projects of these healthcare organisations who are undertaking innovative projects making use of advanced technology solutions to provide best-practice healthcare for patients.

2) What are you looking for in the winning nomination?

In this instance, we are looking for an organisation that leverages on technology to ensure patients are getting medical treatment safely and efficiently.

The award has been established to recognise those members of the Asian healthcare sector who are setting an example for other healthcare facilities by acting as a pioneer in technology adoption. The winner of the Healthcare Organisation of the Year Award will have displayed excellence in hospital administration and a commitment towards bettering their service provision through a variety of methods, including a focus on investing in technological advancement.

 3) What do you see as the major trends emerging in healthcare IT now?

As a leader in this field, we see a trend in the convergence of technologies in electronic transfer of information in the healthcare space. Innovative technologies and applications available to address above challenges accurately and securely include:

  • Patient tracking and bedside administration
  • Real-time visibility of electronic medical records
  • Pharmacy and laboratory administration
  • Supply inventory management & asset tracking  of high value equipment
  • The above applications are aimed at reducing the potential for human errors, improving healthcare operations and efficiencies as well as reduce manpower resources. There is also the challenge to illustrate ROI in devices and systems as well as optimising the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of technologies implemented.

    4) How do you see technology shaping the future of healthcare?

In healthcare, accuracy is paramount when it comes to the administration of drugs or care. One mistake can have a significant impact on reputation, which has a direct impact on the bottom line. Having a comprehensive technology solution allows healthcare providers to bring their accuracy percentage up significantly as it removes the error-prone, paper-based, side of the administration process. Intermec has implemented several solutions in local and regional healthcare organizations that have the capability of:

  • Real-time updates for medication administered and treatment progress for electronic medical
  • Real-time visualisation of department’s activity level, stage & priorities
  • Enables monitoring of quality indicators for continuous improvement
  • Elimination and prevention of manual data entry errors
  • All in all, these processes allow healthcare professionals to prioritise more critical tasks such as patient care and improved patient safety.
