The Electronic Government Agency (EGA) already prepared adequate space on its cloud system for the One Tablet PC per Child scheme commencing this coming May, said EGA Director Sak Segkhoonthod in an exclusive interview with FutureGov.
“The content for children to download will all be on the EGA’s public cloud,” he added.
Accordig to him, the agency is in the process of designing the platform for installing the identification number of up to 900,000 first gradders who would receive the devices this year.
The EGA is now seeking advice from Google as the latter owns the Android market after the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MICT) announced the tablet’s Andriod specification earlier.
All tablet PCs will be delivered to schools via Thailand Post, and the agency has until May to finish the system configuration, Segkhoonthod revealed. “We should not leave this configuration in the hands of young students, it would create chaos.”
The Ministry of Education will be responsible for the curriculum content and handover to the EGA for uploading to its cloud service, while the MICT will see to the infrastructure and the related technical aspects, he added.
The EGA has prepared its cloud to support the Smart Thailand scheme beginning this April, which should be enough to cover the tablet project without requiring more budget for further expansion this year. However, the agency’s concern is the information access management issue as the data will be pulled from across the nation.
“We are looking at having cloud distributed centres to be located at big cities in order to share the traffic and guarantee space for the tablet project,” he concluded.
