Police in the Malaysian State of Selangor have identified about 300 hotspots which will be monitored by real-time CCTV surveillance system, as part of the Government’s National Key Results Area (NKRA) for crime.
Deputy Chief of Selangor Police, Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Thaiveegan said that he was confident the system would help police combat crime and eventually bring the crime rate down.
The system has already been implemented in the state of Johor, which cost RM95 million (US$30 million).
Thaiveegan urged the private sector to collaborate with the police by linking their surveillance system to the police command centre.
“We will advise and guide them on measures to implement at their malls. By working together, we hope to greatly decrease the number of crimes in shopping mall car parks and in the vicinity,” he said.
