The municipal government of the Beijing has commissioned a new Operations and Command Centre for Tiananmen Square, enabling round the clock surveillance and incident response at the biggest square and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
As the heart of the Chinese capital, Tiananmen Area, including the 440,000 square metres public square, is always under tight surveillance and patrol. It is estimated that over the May day long weekend (29 April to 1 May), around 5 million tourists visited Beijing, and most of them toured Tiananmen Area.
The new centre will join multiple agencies including District Management Committee, City Administration, Public Security, Public Utilities and Sanitation Management. An anonymous official told FutureGov that the state-of-the-art facilities and multi-agency collaboration enable the city to run smoothly and give maximised protection to citizens and visitors.
