The Valuation and Property Service Department and the Malaysian Remote Sensing Agency are working together to use a new application using remote sensing and GIS technology to improve government property valuation nationwide.
The application will combine geographic information derived from the satellite remote sensing data in order to develop a comprehensive database evaluation system.
According to Datuk Abd Hamid Abu Bakar, Director General of the Valuation and Property Service Department, the decision to use the new application nationwide stemmed from the success of the pilot project in the federal territory.
He said the pilot project was successful and had an impact in accelerating and improving the efficiency and effectiveness in the process of property evaluation. In addition, since the current Valuation Information System has been used since 1997, the project is critical to ensure that both departments are able to keep pace with the fast pace of technological innovation.
“The system will make it easy for us to implement the on-screen valuation. Apart from that, it will also save time, energy and operations cost, especially for properties that are difficult to access such as rural areas, mangroves, or those without road access,” he said.
