The ministry has successfully made 13 arrests so far and is committed to hunt down other tax evaders.

While tax evasion is possible or even easy 10 or 15 years ago, Chidambaram said that technological resources today has enable the government to track all financial transactions of any individual, that will provide sufficient evidence for prosecution.

He highlighted the services sector which constitutes 55 per cent of the country’s GDP. While there are 1.7 registered tax registrants, only 41 per cent of them or 700,000 pay service tax.

He said that many of these offenders were from sectors such as construction, couriers, telecom and security services.
